Whose police?

Whose police?

Consider toning down our very public love fest with the police, in favour of a more nuanced approach.

Points

Members of marginalised communities, and of other protest groups, are likely to have had a far less positive experience of the police and may see our approach as naive and arising from privilege rather than any clear analysis of the role of policing in our society. I accept the tactic of 'keeping the police on-side' but we should remember that they are NOT on our side - they are on the side of the state.

Given the historical use of the police force against marginalised people and the working class, we should recognise that they are not on our side, and institutionally exist to protect Capital from the people. We should also anknowledge the police force's institutional classism, transphobia and racism and ensure these members of our movement are protected,
