Adult Bike Racks at the Schools in La Crosse

Adult Bike Racks at the Schools in La Crosse

Imagine: Healthy teachers who are invigorated and ready for their day! Bicycle commuting reduces stress and increases brain function (in my experience). Teachers should be able to park their bike in a secure and dignified location, rather than on a playground or close to a busy street. If we build it: They will bike. Biking is better for our planet, health, roads, community, and individual wallets. I believe that, if adult bicycle parking were available, more teachers would commute by bike.

Points

Each school should have a covered and locked area for the staff to park their bikes. Teachers and staff should not have to worry about children or weather wearing down their bikes while they are at work. I have had parts broken on my bicycle because energetic children did not realize that my bike is my vehicle. Kids should be able to be kids, and our bikes should have somewhere safe to be parked.

Yes, would you consider contacting someone at the district level to see if this is viable? Do you have estimates of the cost of bike racks, where they would go specifically, and who would install them? Great idea - I never thought of this before!
