Citizens Jury

Citizens Jury

Eastbourne Borough Council could commission a local citizens jury to come up with recommendations for measures and projects to help deliver a carbon neutral town by 2030.

Points

A citizens' jury allows a representative cross-section of the Eastbourne community to be paid to carefully review expert evidence of what works best locally to reduce carbon emissions and to engage in structured, facilitated discussion in order to come up with detailed recommendations for Eastbourne Borough COuncil to consider implementing.

Kendal Town Council has commissioned a citizen's jury to create a Kendal People's Plan for Climate Emergency and is running a crowdfunder to raise £6,000 to fund it: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/a-peoples-plan-for-climate-emergency?tk=6ce4fa49abafce016e87761ff5e32bb4b8952d9a

Lancaster City Council is running a Citizens Jury: http://www.lancaster.gov.uk/sites/climate-emergency/lancaster-district-people-s-jury

The idea for Eastbourne Borough Council to commission local citizens jury is a very good idea. This could be developed through active participation by Eastbourne residents, who have ideas or wish to contribute to the Carbon Neutral Town. I understand 150 residents have registered to join the councils initiative.
