Active marine conservation zone

Active marine conservation zone

We need to develop ecotourism to revive the town, not based on international travel, or large events, both of which create undesirable air pollution from planes and vehicles. We have a marine conservation zone east of Beachy Head, but hardly any activity related to it. Let's build kelp farms and get people engaged with this wonderful resource, and revive local sustainable fishing.

Points

A fringe event explaining and celebrating our local marine conservation zone would be great during the Eastbourne Walking Festival, which is itself an ever more important contributor towards developing the town as an ecotourist destination.

A well managed offshore kelp farm can make a major contribution to carbon sequestration, and really help towards our ENC2030 goal.

This is an under recognised natural asset along our coast.
