Prepare East Chiltington Church for community use.

Prepare East Chiltington Church for community use.

Preparing the Parish Church for Community use would include installing toilet facilities and making the church accessible for disabled people.

Points

Ensure there is a space for the whole community to enjoy and improve the Church.

Falling attendance puts the church at risk. This historic building could be saved if adapted to provide meeting space for local people. Moveable chairs, an access ramp and a toilet would mean it could be used for many different events - even as a polling station since EC residents will no longer be able to vote at the pub but will have to travel to Plumpton in future.

The work needed to make the church a viable meeting space is extensive, DDA compliance alone will gobble up the £5k. I would suggest that there are grants/loans available for these works which will need not-inconsiderable planning.

Instead. Get our MP on the case...

I agree; smaller more isolated community, with LDC showing no understanding of community need, would be a worthy cause.

As the recreation field is likely to go to a property developer as LDC does not respect our wish to preserve it as a village green, the Church could very well be our last remaining community space. Saving the Church is important for community cohesion.
