The town of Castel di Tora was chosen by the consortium of the SuSTowns project as a "pilot town" with the aim of involving the entire Valley of Turano, a homogeneous territory of the province of Rieti of about 300 sq. km, or about 1/10 (a tenth) of the entire provincial territory.
Numerous small towns, in addition to Castel di Tora overlook the lake, forming an extraordinary landscape structure, while others are perched along the slopes of the mountains.
